101st year Double Tenth National Day of Republic of China (Taiwan) Reception

Statement

Date: Oct. 10, 2012

Thank you!

It is my pleasure to be here this evening as we celebrate the 101st anniversary of the national day of Taiwan.

I would like to thank the organizers of this event -- including my friend Tony Kao -- for the invitation to speak today.

In 2005, I was fortunate enough to visit Taiwan and experience the beauty and spirit of a very proud country.

The mountains of Yang Ming Shan and Taroko National Park were truly breathtaking.

The traditional markets of Tihua Street in downtown Taipei were a wonderful glimpse into lifestyles of centuries ago.

Perhaps my fondest memory was meeting the many pilots of the Taiwanese Air Force at the Base in Hualien.

Many of the pilots I visited had received F-16 training at our own Luke Air Force Base.

I came away from that trip knowing that we shared the same commitment to values and trade.

We have a strong relationship with Taiwan. It is my hope that we will continue to grow and thrive in partnership for many years to come.

May God bless you and your families, the nation of Taiwan and the great State of Arizona!

Thank you and have a wonderful night.
